Child Health Investment Partnership

In Bedford County, families are working hard to give their children a healthy start but barriers to healthcare, education, and resources still exist. With nearly 1 in 5 residents under age 18 and about 12% of children living in poverty, the need for early, family-centered support is clear.

Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) of the Roanoke Valley is a trusted early childhood home visiting program serving Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Roanoke, and Salem. Since 1988, CHIP has empowered 28,000+ children and their families, partnering with pregnant moms, children from birth to first grade, and their caregivers to build a strong foundation for lifelong health and success.

Through our proven home-visiting model, families are paired with a Community Health Nurse and a Family Case Manager who provide personalized, in-home support—from accessing medical care and managing chronic conditions to promoting healthy development and kindergarten readiness. Services also include oral health education, developmental screenings, and specialized support, such as Prenatal Case Management, NICU care, Asthma Case Management, and Mental Health Counseling.

Since 2018, CHIP has served 32 Bedford County families, delivering 497 home visits and 712 moments of education, including:
• 516 instances of parenting education
• 132 instances of oral health education
• 64 instances of car safety education

These one-on-one visits build trusted relationships and give parents the tools and confidence to create safe, healthy environments where children can thrive. The home visiting model works because it is personal, consistent, and relationship-driven.
