Every horse that arrives at Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue is a survivor.

Since our founding in 2002, we have rescued and rehabilitated over 400 horses who came to us abused, neglected, starved, or facing slaughter. Each one carries a story. Some arrive extremely neglected, fearful, withdrawn, and unsure if they are finally safe. Some were barely hanging on to life.

At RVHR, rescue is only the beginning. Through rehabilitation, patience, and care, these horses are given a second chance at life—and that chance is made complete through the volunteers who spend countless hours careing for each horse and families who adopt them.

Our 20-acre facility, located just minutes from Westlake Corner and a short drive from Roanoke, is home to more than 30 horses at any given time as they recover and wait for loving forever homes. As an approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are committed to preventing equine abuse, assisting Animal Control with equine seizures, and educating the public on proper horse care, safety, and responsible horsemanship.
